Israeli gunfire kills dozens of aid seekers in Gaza, according to doctors, as hunger worsens

At least 67 people were killed by Israeli gunfire while waiting for UN aid trucks in northern Gaza on Sunday, the territory's Health Ministry announced, as Israel issued new evacuation orders for populated areas of displaced Gazans, some of whom began to leave.

The ministry stated that dozens of others were also injured in the incident that occurred in northern Gaza, one of the highest tolls among the recent repeated cases of aid seekers being killed, including 36 on Saturday. Six more people were killed near another humanitarian site in the south, it added.

The Israeli military stated that its troops fired warning shots towards a crowd of thousands of people in northern Gaza on Sunday to eliminate what it described as an 'immediate threat'.

The agency said initial findings suggested that the reported casualty figures were inflated and that it 'certainly did not intentionally target humanitarian aid trucks'.

The ministry did not immediately comment on the incident in the south.

In total, health authorities reported that 88 people had been killed by Israeli fire and airstrikes in Gaza on Sunday.
