🇬🇹💔 WOMAN LOSES HER LIFE HUGGING HER PET DURING EARTHQUAKES ON JULY 8
😢 Regina López Velásquez, a neighbor who had been reported missing when she went out to gather firewood, was found dead hugging her dog, who never left her side during the landslide that buried them both.
The tragedy occurred in the village of El Tablón, zone 2 of Villa Nueva, during a series of earthquakes that shook Guatemala with magnitudes of up to 5.7. Her husband, Rómulo Lobo Marroquín, expressed his deep sorrow for the loss in statements to local media.
The earthquakes on July 8 left 7 dead and 38 injured in total. Among the victims: a father and son crushed by a rock in Palín, a 13-year-old boy buried in Santa María de Jesús, and a man who suffered a cardiac arrest in Antigua Guatemala.
The Municipal Firefighters worked tirelessly to recover the body of Regina and her faithful companion. More than 150 earthquakes and aftershocks were recorded, causing landslides, damage to 88 homes, and the collapse of structures in three departments.
