U.S. President Donald Trump lashed out on Sunday against his former confidant Elon Musk for the latter's plans to form a third political party in the country, intensifying a bitter public feud between the two.
In a long and rambling post on Truth.Social, Trump said he was "saddened to see Elon Musk 'completely derail,'" while criticizing the Tesla CEO's plans for a new political party.
"He even wants to start a Third Political Party, despite the fact that they have never been successful in the United States... The only thing Third Parties are good for is creating DISRUPTION and COMPLETE and TOTAL CHAOS," said Trump, while also criticizing the Democrats.
Trump promoted his recently approved "great and beautiful bill," for eliminating a proposal for a mandate for electric vehicles, which he said was unfortunate for the richest man in the world.
The president also mentioned possible conflicts of interest between Musk and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), considering Musk's push for a close Democratic friend to lead the agency as "inappropriate."
Trump's post comes after Musk – who was Trump's biggest financier during the 2024 elections – said on Saturday that he planned to form a new political party: the America Party.
The announcement highlighted a growing rift between Musk and Trump, which seems to have been partly provoked by Musk's repeated criticisms of the great and beautiful bill. Musk had previously said that the bill would lead America to bankruptcy.
Musk spent hundreds of millions of dollars on Trump's campaign and led the Department of Government Efficiency as part of the Trump administration. But he resigned from that position in May, after which he was seen involved in a public dispute with Trump.
It remains to be seen whether the richest man in the world can alter the Democratic-Republican duopoly that has dominated U.S. politics for most of the country's existence. Unaffiliated parties have generally struggled to gain any traction in the country.
The Libertarian Party, which is currently the third largest political party in the U.S. by voter registration, has no seats in Congress and had fewer than 700,000 registered voters as of 2020.#MuskAmericaParty #Trump #TeslaBitcoinHoldings $BTC
