Following successful integrations with Bitcoin and Ethereum, we are excited to announce a significant expansion: Chain Fusion has now extended its capabilities to the Solana network, meaning that smart contracts (called 'containers') on the Internet Computer can natively interact with Bitcoin, Ethereum, and now Solana.
Imagine an application that can seamlessly coordinate assets and logic across these three leading ecosystems, for example, with the support of the Internet Computer, native SOL can now be fully exchanged on-chain for native Bitcoin.
Direct connection technology of the Internet Computer
Chain Fusion achieves this unprecedented interoperability without the vulnerabilities of traditional bridges, relying instead on the core protocol innovations of ICP.
Chain key cryptography: This is the foundational engine that enables ICP containers to hold keys and directly sign transactions for other blockchains. For Solana, the containers utilize Threshold Ed25519 (Solana's signature scheme) to natively control Solana accounts and assets, just like Bitcoin (Threshold ECDSA / Schnorr) and Ethereum (Threshold ECDSA).
SOL RPC containers and secure HTTPS calls: Containers on ICP can securely make HTTPS requests to external APIs. We have deployed the SOL RPC container, a dedicated service that uses this capability to communicate with the Solana network. It intelligently queries multiple independent Solana RPC providers and cross-references their responses to avoid any single point of failure, ensuring reliability and accuracy.
Decentralized governance: The SOL RPC container is controlled by the Network Nervous System (NNS), an open DAO run by token holders responsible for managing the entire Internet Computer. This ensures operational transparency, as any updates require community review and approval, thereby guaranteeing genuinely decentralized and trustworthy services for the ecosystem.
This unique combination offers true secure, direct interoperability, meticulously crafted by the tamper-proof and scalable environment of the Internet Computer.
In a cross-chain demonstration, Grégory Demay, head of the DFINITY Foundation cross-chain team, showcased how Internet Computer smart contracts interact with the Solana blockchain.

1. Ultimate native cross-chain exchange
Function: Seamlessly exchange native Bitcoin for native Solana tokens (and vice versa) on-chain without wrapping, custodial risks, just through secure transactions coordinated by ICP containers, which will bring unprecedented liquidity and user experience to DeFi.
ICP advantages: ICP's unique chain key technology enables its containers to securely manage and sign transactions of assets on other blockchains, allowing containers to natively hold assets from other chains without any intermediaries, opening the door to cross-chain asset exchanges and avoiding the pitfalls of traditional methods.

Innovation: Build multi-chain lending protocols where collateral can be Bitcoin, ETH, or SOL, managed by a single ICP container, creating decentralized index funds that track cross-chain assets, and process price information and rebalancing in a trustless manner on ICP, empowering DAOs to manage treasuries holding various native assets like Solana, Ethereum, and Bitcoin, all managed by ICP.
ICP Edge: Utilize ICP to implement complex financial logic, protect Oracle data through HTTPS calls, and host user interfaces that are fully on-chain.
