Some experts now believe Q-Day—the day when modern encryption can be broken—will arrive much sooner than previously thought. David Carvalho, CEO of Naoris Protocol, has warned that quantum computers may be able to crack highly secure algorithms in the next two to three years. As such, Bitcoin and other crypto assets are in a worrying position because they are not ready. Quantum Threats to Modern Encryption Current encryption, such as RSA, relies on mathematical problems that are impossible for classical supercomputers to solve. In particular, RSA-2048—the 2048-bit standard that protects most online data—is powerful because it is nearly impossible to factor its giant prime numbers. However, qubits allow quantum algorithms like Shor’s algorithm to factor large numbers very efficiently, solving these “hard” problems exponentially faster. Just last month, Google Quantum AI estimated that RSA-2048 could be cracked in less than a week using under a million qubits—an estimate that drastically accelerates the timeline for this threat. #quantum #BTC
