Mehdi Farouk, a partner at the venture crypto fund Hypersphere, fell victim to a phishing attack, losing a significant portion of his personal savings. According to Incrypted, the attackers used a fake Zoom call to gain access to his device. The attack began with a message on Telegram from an alleged acquaintance, Alex Lin, who suggested a meeting via Zoom Business, referencing the participation of an LP investor. During the call, the hackers compromised Farouk's laptop, stealing assets from six cryptocurrency wallets.

Farouk, who previously worked at Animoca Brands, joined Hypersphere in 2025. He noted that the scammer maintained the illusion of normal communication on Telegram, while Lin's real account had been hacked. Analysts suggest that a hacker group linked to North Korea may be behind the attack. This incident highlights the rise of phishing attacks in the crypto industry, where attackers use social engineering to deceive even experienced investors.

Experts advise checking links to conferences, using two-factor authentication, and avoiding suspicious calls. Hypersphere has not yet commented on the situation, but the incident has sparked discussions about security in the crypto community. Stay updated to protect your assets!
