According to PANews, the French National Assembly recently rejected a proposal concerning Bitcoin mining. The amendment suggested exploring the use of France's surplus electricity for Bitcoin mining to optimize the operation of the nuclear energy grid. However, the proposal was dismissed without discussion due to procedural issues, specifically citing Rule 98 of the parliamentary procedures.

Had it been approved, France would have joined El Salvador and Bhutan as one of the few countries incorporating Bitcoin mining into their national energy strategies. Analysts indicate that similar proposals are unlikely to be resubmitted in the near term, as Bitcoin mining is still viewed as an environmental threat in France. The parliament clarified that the rejection was solely based on the proposal's format, suggesting that a more concise amendment could be submitted in the future.
