How was the delivery carried out and what was its impact?
Since his election on May 8, 2025, Pope Leo XIV reactivated the historical payment granted to staff during the vacant see period, a modality interrupted by his predecessor. Without bombastic announcements, that bonus returned silently but firmly: it was already part of the June payroll for about 5000 employees, who each received 500 euros.
The tradition consists of a one-time payment that recognizes the effort of the staff of the Curia, museums, library, pharmacy, and media of the Vatican, among others, during the papal transition. In total, the measure mobilized nearly 2.5 million euros, reflected in the payrolls at the end of May.
