Trump Signals Possible U.S. Involvement in Escalating Israel-Iran Conflict

In a recent interview with ABC News on June 15, former President Donald Trump stated that while the United States is not currently involved in the growing conflict between Israel and Iran, future intervention remains a possibility. “We’re not involved in it. It’s possible we could get involved,” Trump said, highlighting the unpredictable nature of the ongoing Middle East crisis.

Trump clarified that, for now, there are no American troops engaged in the conflict. However, he acknowledged that the U.S. has provided critical intelligence and is stepping up missile defense support to Israel. He also revealed that during his administration, he vetoed an Israeli plan to assassinate Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, fearing the move could trigger widespread destabilization in the region.

Despite the rising tensions—with deadly missile strikes reported on both sides, hundreds killed or injured, and airspace closures across Israel and Iran—Trump expressed hope that this crisis could open the door to diplomatic negotiations. He claimed that Iran “wants to talk,” suggesting that back-channel discussions might be underway.

Interestingly, Trump also mentioned that Russian President Vladimir Putin had contacted him, offering to mediate the conflict. “He is ready. He called me about it. We had a long talk,” Trump said. With the situation rapidly evolving, Trump’s comments signal that U.S. involvement, while not imminent, could still become a reality if conditions in the Middle East continue to deteriorate.
