Joseph Lubin — co-founder of Ethereum, billionaire, advocate for decentralization, and just a humble Canadian guy — suddenly started speaking. After so many years of silence, this crypto godfather suddenly woke up and approached the microphone. What was that? An epiphany? An attack of talkativeness? Or just… Gary Gensler resigned?
Of course. It’s all about Gary.
“I was silent not because I was afraid, but because… obedient”
Lubin admitted: he didn’t speak about Ethereum out loud before because he was advised to do so by none other than Gary Gensler — the former head of the SEC. Yes, the same one who believes that any coin with a logo is a security, and decentralization is “only if you call it Web3.” It seems Gary approached Joseph in a dark alley and whispered:
“Don’t talk about Ether, kid. Or we’ll come with a subpoena.”
Well, Joseph was silent. And Ethereum — in the meantime — was becoming the infrastructure of global DeFi. And so they lived.
But times are changing — and Lubin is too
Now everything has changed. Lubin says that the regulatory environment in the US has become ‘more favorable’. So… is the SEC on summer vacation? Or did Gary just leave, and now we can speak freely, like in a school cafeteria when the teacher steps out?
He came out in public and announced:
“Now I am free to speak. Ethereum is alive. And I’m ready to listen to you.”
Thank you, Joe. I’ve been wanting to discuss a couple of things for a long time. For example, why MetaMask sends analytics data without asking. Or how Consensys became the ‘errand girl’ for institutions. Well, never mind, you’re now for transparency — respected.
“A call to the people: speak up, criticize, be outraged!”
Here it is, the main message: Lubin calls on all of us — simple crypto sergeants, DeFi coders, NFT jokers, and hodl grandmas — to raise our voices. To talk about Ethereum issues, about Consensys, about ‘protocols’. Just like in a democratic decentralized assembly… only on Twitter.
“Your criticism is important, friends,” says Joseph.
(Most likely, while the SEC lawyers are taking notes.)
“What’s next — a token from Joe? Or a talk show?”
Given the new level of talkativeness, we’re expecting a podcast: “Lubin on the line” — every Wednesday, discussing gas prices and whose node got shut down. Maybe he’ll even get to debates with Buterin: “Vitalik, stop raping Layer-2.” Who knows.
The outcome
Joseph Lubin is no longer silent. The SEC is no longer whispering. And the world of Ethereum has suddenly become a bit more… human. Maybe this is American-style decentralization: first, you’re scared of the bureaucrat, then you turn on the microphone.
