At dawn on Friday, October 13, 1307, by the order of Philip, all Templars living in France were arrested. They were handed over to the Inquisition. The trial lasted a long time. Several thousand knight-monks were accused of heresy, blasphemy, apostasy from the dogmas of the church, and debauchery. The order was disbanded, its wealth was confiscated and divided between the king and the pope. Later, historians proved that all the accusations were unfounded. Many Templars, who were forced to confess to heresy under inhumane torture, recanted their testimonies in court and were sentenced to be burned.
For seven centuries, legends have been retold that the Templars managed to hide part of their wealth, transporting it to some hidden places. In Europe, searches for these treasures continue to this day. However, to this day, there is no known discovery of even a part of them.
According to legend, the great master Jacques de Molay, engulfed in flames, cursed Pope Clement V and Philip IV the Fair: "Clement, unjust judge, I summon you to God's Judgment for 40 days from today, and you, King Philip, also unjust, until the year." The pope indeed died a month later from dysentery, and less than a year later, Philip IV passed away.
