After 48 hours of intense discussions in London, China and the United States have temporarily pressed the trade war nuclear button, but the fuse is still burning. August 10th is a life-or-death line!
Temporary painkiller:
The United States has eased its grip on rare earth exports.
China has also let up a bit, allowing rare earth companies in Shenzhen to resume exports.
The most drastic move is the significant tariff reduction! The punitive tariffs imposed by the U.S. on China have been cut from 145% to 30%, while China's tariffs on the U.S. have been reduced from 125% to 10%. This is definitely a significant concession from both sides!
BUT! A time bomb hangs overhead:
August 10th is the deadline! If an agreement is not reached by then, all the reduced tariffs will “boom” back up, or even worse! This is not an agreement; it is merely a delay to an explosion!
