to October 1582 on your calendar, you'll notice something bizarre - there's no October 5th to 14th! That's because those 10 days were completely skipped when the world switched from the Julian calendar to the more accurate Gregorian calendar.
The reform, introduced by Pope Gregory XIII, was designed to fix inaccuracies in how we measured the year - especially how we tracked leap years. To realign the calendar with the solar year, the Church literally deleted 10 days. So in countries like Italy, Spain, and Portugal, people went to bed on October 4... and woke up on October 15.$BNB
