New York City Mayor Eric Adams unveiled plans to issue Bitcoin Bonds during his appearance at the Bitcoin 2025 conference in Las Vegas on May 28.
The initiative, still light on structural details, aims to integrate bitcoin into municipal finance and advance Adams’ vision of New York as the “crypto capital of the world.” Described as “Bitcoin-backed municipal investment vehicles,” the bonds may be denominated in bitcoin or supported by bitcoin reserves, although specifics remain pending.
The announcement aligns with Adams’ long-standing crypto advocacy, including his 2022 decision to receive his first three mayoral paychecks in bitcoin and ethereum.
