US Tourist Drugged and Robbed of $123K in Bitcoin by Fake Uber Driver

An American tourist in London, Jacob Irwin-Cline, was reportedly drugged and robbed of $123,000 in Bitcoin after mistaking a fake Uber driver for his ride. After a night out, Cline entered a vehicle resembling his expected Uber but later realized it was the wrong car. The driver offered him a cigarette likely laced with scopolamine, causing him to pass out. When he awoke, the driver forced him out and fled with his phone containing access to his crypto wallet.

This incident is part of a growing trend of violent crimes targeting crypto holders. Recent cases in France included the kidnapping of a crypto exchange owner’s father and an attempted abduction of Paymium CEO Pierre Noizat’s daughter and grandson. As attacks rise, many in the crypto community are turning to enhanced personal security
