According to BlockBeats, New York police have arrested 37-year-old cryptocurrency investor John Woeltz and a 24-year-old female accomplice in downtown Manhattan. They are accused of kidnapping and torturing an Italian tourist. Sources from the New York Post indicate that Woeltz held the victim captive in a luxury SoHo apartment for over two weeks, attempting to violently obtain access to the victim's financial accounts, with the case involving millions of dollars.
Police discovered Polaroid photos documenting the abuse at the scene, including an image of the victim with a gun pointed at his head. The victim was lured to the apartment on May 6 under the pretense of a business transaction, subsequently kidnapped and tortured. Upon escaping, the victim claimed Woeltz intended to kill him.
Woeltz, known for his early investments in Bitcoin, has not been active on his GitHub account since 2020. He faces charges of second-degree assault, kidnapping, unlawful imprisonment, and illegal possession of a firearm. The female accomplice is charged with kidnapping and unlawful imprisonment.
