Will Layer2 Become the Savior of Ethereum?

The scalability issues of Ethereum have long plagued the development of the ecosystem, and Layer2 solutions are highly anticipated, aiming to improve transaction speed and reduce Gas fees.

Layer2 achieves higher throughput and lower costs by 'moving' transactions off the main chain to off-chain or side-chain processing. Typical technical routes include ZK-Rollups and Optimistic Rollups, the former utilizing zero-knowledge proofs to ensure security, while the latter prevents malicious behavior through fraud proofs.

Currently, Layer2 projects like Arbitrum, Optimism, and zkSync have attracted a large number of users and funds, with some applications migrating to Layer2, significantly enhancing user experience.

However, Layer2 is not perfect. It relies on the security of the main chain, there are waiting periods for fund withdrawals, and switching between different Layer2 solutions is still inconvenient for users. Additionally, developers need to adapt to a multi-layer environment, increasing complexity.

In summary, Layer2 is a key link in Ethereum's scalability, which will greatly alleviate network congestion in the short term, but to become a 'savior', it still needs to address challenges such as cross-chain interoperability, user experience, and ecosystem diversity.
