France Vows Protection for Crypto Wealth Amid Rising Kidnapping Threats

France’s Interior Ministry is taking urgent steps to address a troubling surge in kidnappings linked to cryptocurrency wealth. Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau announced a high-level meeting with crypto business leaders to strengthen personal security measures and raise awareness of targeted threats.

🔒 Attempted Abduction Sparks Action

The move follows a shocking attempted kidnapping in central Paris involving the family of Pierre Noizat, CEO of crypto exchange Paymium. Four masked men assaulted Noizat’s daughter, her husband, and young son in broad daylight. The attackers tried to force the family into a van. The husband was beaten while resisting, but the wife managed to disarm one assailant, throwing away what was later identified as an airsoft gun. The attackers fled after nearby pedestrians intervened.

🧊 Pattern of Targeted Violence

This incident is part of a wider trend. In January, David Balland, co-founder of Ledger, was kidnapped along with his partner—Balland's finger was severed in an attempt to access crypto assets. Nine suspects have been arrested in that case.

Another case in May saw a man abducted to extort his crypto-millionaire son. Seven individuals were arrested during the rescue operation.

🛡 Government Commitment to Safety

“We must take joint measures to protect those involved in crypto,” said Retailleau, emphasizing that authorities would pursue all criminals, even beyond France’s borders. He stressed that crypto entrepreneurs must recognize the risks that come with visibility and wealth.

The ministry’s response highlights growing concerns over the physical security of digital asset holders and France’s commitment to safeguarding innovation while confronting organized crime.
