【U.S. SEC hacker once searched on Google 'How to confirm if you are being investigated by the FBI'】According to Golden Finance reports, Eric Council Jr., an accomplice in the hacking case of the U.S. SEC's official X account, was reported to have illegally profited $50,000 through SIM swapping attacks. New evidence submitted by prosecutors on May 12 shows that Council provided SIM hijacking services using the Telegram account 'easymunny' from January to June 2024, charging between $1,200 and $1,500 each time. He deceived AT&T employees into transferring victims' phone numbers by forging identification documents, assisting his accomplices in taking control of the SEC account on January 9, 2024, to publish false news about Bitcoin ETF approval. Investigators discovered that Council had searched on Google for 'How to confirm if you are being investigated by the FBI' and 'Time required to delete a Telegram account.' Although his Telegram was set to automatically delete chat history after two weeks, conversations discussing SIM hijacking with overseas accomplices were still retained. Council was monitored and caught while executing another SIM hijacking at an Apple store on June 18, 2024, and was subsequently arrested and pleaded guilty this February. Prosecutors recommended a two-year prison sentence, and the final verdict will be announced on May 16.
