BlackRock has heavily invested in the tokenization of real-world assets (RWA) to create a seamless connection between traditional finance (TradeFi) and DeFi (DeFi). The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has many pending applications for cryptocurrency ETF approval but is still waiting for Congressional consent. With over $10 trillion in assets under management, BlackRock has significantly expanded into the blockchain and digital asset space. This New York-based investment management company has plans to tokenize the U.S. stock market on major blockchains.
BlackRock aims to scale its global operations, serving investors seeking traditional financial products through web3 technology. Already, BlackRock has successfully launched two spot cryptocurrency ETFs, including Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH). As of now, BlackRock's IBIT has seen net inflows of approximately $44 billion, currently managing around $62.91 billion in net assets. BlackRock's ETHA has recorded net inflows of about $4.2 billion, currently managing approximately $2.6 billion.
On May 9, BlackRock met with the SEC's Cryptocurrency Task Force to seek guidance on cryptocurrency staking, RWA tokenization, ETF approval standards, and ETF options. Under the leadership of SEC Chairman Paul Atkins, BlackRock is well-positioned to have more cryptocurrency products approved in the near future. The cryptocurrency staking feature will provide BlackRock’s investors with more channels to increase their returns.
BlackRock has discussed with the Task Force on the approach to staking, including consolidation to support ETPs with staking capabilities. Regarding ETP approval standards, BlackRock and the SEC Task Force have discussed specific factors and regulations that may apply in the approval of ETPs.
