GENIUS ACT VOTIING TODAY

The GENIUS Act is about modernizing America’s payment system to reflect the realities of the 21st century. It is about affirming US dollar dominance and ensuring America remains the world’s capital of innovation.

Here is where we are at:

The GENIUS Act passed out of committee with glowing bipartisan support. The vote was 18-6.

During that process, some of my Democratic colleagues asked for changes to the bill. We’ve made several of them.

Now, Democrats are asking for even more changes. We’ve told them we’re willing to accept some.

But …

We can’t make any changes to this bill if Senators do not vote “yes” today. What does a “yes” vote mean?

A “yes” vote today means that we can begin the process of debating and amending the GENIUS Act on the floor. If my Democrat colleagues, many of whom voted this out of committee, are serious and acting in good faith, they should vote “yes.”

Now let’s talk about what a “no” vote means.

Voting “no” today means you are not willing to even debate, nor amend, the GENIUS Act.

It means that all of the recent comments made in the press about needing changes or tweaks were simply lip service. It means a sudden change of heart from a “yes” in committee to a swift “no” in the last week is purely about politics, not policy. A “no” vote today is a vote against crypto and against innovation.

I implore my colleagues not to filibuster America’s global leadership in innovation and financial dominance.

Republicans have proven that we are serious about working to get the GENIUS Act across the finish line.

Let’s get this bill to the floor and begin the process of legislating.
