Elon Musk's Starbase has transformed from a launch site into a real city.
A new city called Starbase has officially appeared in southern Texas. According to a vote held on May 3, 2025, 97.74% supported the creation of this territorial unit.
The initiative related to the activities of Spacex received almost unanimous support from local residents, most of whom are employees of the company or their families.
Elon Musk confirmed the formation of the city through his account on the social network X. Starbase also has its own page on X, where news about the city's development is planned to be published. Located near the Mexican border, Starbase covers an area of about 3.9 square kilometers and includes Spacex's manufacturing facilities, a launch site, and residential areas for employees.
Spacex intends to develop Starbase as a center for space technologies. The main goal of obtaining city status is to independently manage utilities such as water supply, electricity, and roads, without the need for coordination with Cameron County. This also simplifies the process of closing local roads and beaches during rocket launches, which previously caused difficulties due to coordination with authorities. Additionally, Starbase will be able to develop residential and social infrastructure for employees, which is important for attracting new specialists.
