The Development Potential of ETH Smart Contracts

New public chains like Solana and Sui are currently competing with ETH. For scenarios with relatively low security requirements, such as blockchain games and decentralized social networks, I believe these new public chains have a greater advantage.

However, I think the reason why ETH has not become Solana is not that it cannot, but that it does not want to. Decentralization, low operational thresholds, and simple security are the core advantages of ETH. I believe that, for now, the importance of smart contract security and stability still outweighs efficiency.

From a practical perspective, no public chain can surpass ETH in terms of decentralization. If a DApp is solely pursuing performance rather than security and decentralization, then why not use Web2? (Of course, decentralization is relative, and it doesn't mean that chains like Solana, which balance decentralization and performance, have no value.)

Although the competition is fierce, I believe ETH, as a world computer, has significant room for development. It does not necessarily have to compete with new public chains in the consumer market; the path of core financial services plus reliance on L2 infrastructure for the business market is also entirely feasible.
