What are Altcoins?
Altcoins can be defined as any cryptocurrency other than Bitcoin (BTC). The name Altcoin comes from the fact that Bitcoin is the original cryptocurrency, and all other currencies are considered Altcoins. Some people believe that Altcoins are all cryptocurrencies other than Bitcoin (BTC) or Ethereum (ETH), as many cryptocurrencies are created to resemble these two digital currencies.
Many of these Altcoins have been created from modifications of Bitcoin through a process called a hard fork. BTC is the 'gold standard' of cryptocurrencies and has revolutionized finance. Due to its multiple characteristics, it has formed the most stable balance among cryptocurrencies based on blockchain technology. To address the technical and practical issues faced by Bitcoin, alternative digital currencies have been created.
