ChainCatcher news, according to Decrypt, Coinbase has joined multiple parties in submitting an amicus brief urging the U.S. Supreme Court to hear the case of 'Harper v. O’Donnell' and re-examine the applicability of the third-party disclosure principle in the digital age.
The case originates from the IRS's request for Coinbase to provide transaction data for over 14,000 users through a 'John Doe subpoena.' Coinbase argues that this practice constitutes a 'financial shackling' surveillance of blockchain users, violating their privacy rights protected by the Fourth Amendment of the Constitution. It is expected that a decision on whether the court will hear the case will be made this year.
