#Park Jin Hyok, a North Korean programmer and alleged member of the Lazarus Group—a hacking organization linked to North Korea's Reconnaissance General Bureau—has been implicated in several high-profile cyberattacks. These include the 2014 Sony Pictures hack, the 2016 Bangladesh Bank heist, and the 2017 WannaCry ransomware attack.
Recently, on February 21, 2025, the Dubai-based cryptocurrency exchange Bybit experienced a significant security breach, resulting in the theft of approximately $1.5 billion worth of Ethereum. The attackers manipulated the transaction interface during a routine transfer from a cold wallet to a warm wallet, gaining control over the cold wallet and transferring its contents to an unknown address.
While Bybit has not officially attributed this attack to any specific group, blockchain analytics firms Arkham Intelligence and Elliptic have traced the hack to the Lazarus Group. Given Park Jin Hyok's alleged involvement with this group, it is possible he played a role in the Bybit hack. However, without official confirmation, his direct involvement remains speculative.
