December is an exciting month for the Swarm network as the 2.3 update doubles the reserve size and increases the odds of winning the redistribution game. Another powerful feature is GSOC, which opens the door to the powerful dApp era on Swarm, such as multi-user forums, social media sites, chat applications, etc.
There is also exciting news from the research track. Multichain support is transitioning to the production version and updated price oracles are now achieving truly decentralized pricing.
Swarm-CLI has received several important updates, including the 'stamp create' command, which is a more user-friendly version of 'stamp buy' that will replace it in the future.
The release of Bee 2.3 has also impacted Swarm's documentation. Documentation has been updated to include instructions for doubling reserves as well as updated OpenAPI specifications and staking contract addresses. The well logging section has also undergone a comprehensive overhaul.
Swarm Winter Solstice Event 2024 marks the transformation of Swarm towards real-world impact, emphasizing its functional integrity as the backbone of Web3. The event presented ambitious 2025 goals proposed by COO Sándor A. Nagy and showcased the ecosystem's applications in decentralized artificial intelligence and community building, including valuable insights from Web3Privacy Now.
Bee Tracking
This 2.3 release is set to go out on December 4, introducing doubled reserves and doubled opportunities in the redistribution game. In this version, we also have GSOC, which brings a new era for Swarm's single-owner blocks and opens the door for building multi-user forums, social media sites, chat applications, and other dApps.
Later in December, we will have version 2.3.1, fixing the retrieval issues of sources in the /bzz endpoint.
The Bee team has begun researching ways to improve download and upload speeds, focusing back on push-sync and pull-sync protocols, and we are exploring possible optimizations.
Research Track
As mentioned above, most of the work has been done in collaboration with the Bee team while also investigating and generating analysis and benchmarks of speed and performance on Swarm.
Multichain products have transitioned from PoC to production version.
The performance of the Oracle released with version 2.3 is as expected, now providing reactive, truly decentralized pricing based on supply and demand.
