If approved by the Senate, Paul Atkins is set to replace Gary Gensler as the head of the SEC for a five-year term. A critical issue remains unresolved in the courts: whether cryptocurrencies should be classified as securities, a matter that extends beyond the jurisdiction of federal regulators. The upcoming Congress, with a narrow Republican majority, is expected to provide clearer guidelines on stablecoins, potentially impacting the regulatory landscape.
