Democratic senator presents the 'MEME Act' to prevent the president and Congress from launching meme coins WASHINGTON (TNND) — Senator Chris Murphy, a Democrat from Connecticut, announced on Tuesday that he had introduced the “Modern Emoluments and Malfeasance Enforcement Act,” or “MEME Act,” aimed at federal officials who issue meme coins. Meme coins are a form of cryptocurrency with ironic or humorous appeal due to their connection with internet memes. President Donald Trump launched his own meme coin shortly before his inauguration and now offers its holders the opportunity to meet him at a gala in Washington D.C. Senator Murphy said in a video posted via X that these coins sometimes allow government officials to receive secret payments from those who do business with the federal government. Trump's meme coin is the most immoral and corrupt thing that a U.S. president has ever done,” said the senator. “This is an opportunity for Republicans and Democrats to come together and say that none of us, no member of the executive branch or Congress, should be able to profit from their position.” Representative Sam Liccardo, a Democrat from California, co-sponsored the legislation in the House. “When I introduced the MEME Act in February, we saw this corruption coming,” he wrote. “Thanks to @ChrisMurphyCT for leading the fight in the Senste [sic]. Let’s make corruption a crime again.” The introduction of the bill comes after reports that Representative Maxine Waters, a Democrat from California, will block a joint hearing on Tuesday with House Republicans focused on cryptocurrencies. FT report indicates prior knowledge of Melania Trump's memecoin launch A group of wallets made approximately $100 million by trading Melania Trump's memecoin #TRUMP #Melania #Senator #MEMEAct #memecoin🚀🚀🚀 $TRUMP {future}(MELANIAUSDT)

WASHINGTON (TNND) — Senator Chris Murphy, a Democrat from Connecticut, announced on Tuesday that he had introduced the “Modern Emoluments and Malfeasance Enforcement Act,” or “MEME Act,” aimed at federal officials who issue meme coins.

Representative Sam Liccardo, a Democrat from California, co-sponsored the legislation in the House.

In an April 2 letter, Senator Elizabeth Warren and Representative Maxine Waters — ranking members of the Senate Banking Committee and the House Financial Services Committee, respectively — asked Ueda to provide Congress with information about Trump’s ties to World Liberty Financial (WLFI). Both lawmakers suggested that the SEC may be influenced by the firm, and “this conflict of interest could interfere with its mission to protect investors and maintain fair and orderly markets.” “The Trump family’s financial stake in World Liberty Financial represents an unprecedented conflict of interest that could impact the Trump administration’s oversight — or lack thereof — of the cryptocurrency industry, creating an obvious incentive for the Trump administration to direct federal agencies, including the SEC, to take positions favorable to cryptocurrency interests that directly benefit the president’s family,”#TrumpTariffs #Senator

#MEMEAct 🤔 Interesting proposal by Senator Murphy. Banning politicians from meme coins raises some questions about free speech and financial activities. On one hand, it could prevent potential conflicts of interest and undue influence. On the other, where do you draw the line? What about other types of assets? It's a complex issue with valid arguments on both sides. but there don't consider the sucking water like blood bath crypto currency rolling on the market i think #senator also got huge loss on it,😂😂😂
