Millions of workers around the world send money home to support their familiesāand every dollar counts. But sending money across borders remains shockingly expensive.
Imagine this: sending $200 to Tanzania can cost $115 in fees. Thatās more than half gone before the money even arrives. Turkey? $53. Senegal? $35.
This is not a glitchāitās a system working as intended. A small number of large banks control the flow and charge whatever fees they want. Itās slow, costly, and unfriendly to ordinary people.
Even so-called "low-cost" transfers, like $16 to send $200 to Switzerland or Sweden, are absurd. If youāve ever used Ethereum L2 or Solana, you know the better possibleā$100,000 in stablecoins can move in seconds for less than a cent.
The legacy banking system simply isnāt built for the future. The way forward is better, faster, cheaper technologies. Banks can either resist cryptocurrencies and get left behindāor adapt and compete in a new era of global payments.
