The mistake was some simple technical snafu like keying in “trillion” instead of “million. The company quickly realized the error and burned (destroyed) all extra tokens within a span of just 20 minutes. Nobody lost any actual money, and it wasn’t a hack.

The incident led to a rival platform, Aave, pausing trade of the token for a time And online, people joked that PayPal which supports the stablecoin was for a fleeting period the richest thing in existence.
