💥 Bitcoin Teeters on a Critical Threshold — A Break Below $90K Could Trigger Volatility

Bitcoin is hovering around $90,000, and a confirmed close beneath this level would signal heightened downside risk.

U.S.-listed spot Bitcoin ETFs saw $372.77M in outflows on Tuesday, extending a withdrawal streak that began on November 12. Combined with Monday’s $254.51M outflow, this trend reflects weakening institutional participation. According to SoSoValue, persistent redemptions have added pressure to BTC’s price and point to fading institutional confidence.

Analysts warn that selling pressure is intensifying, with leverage in the futures market rising. K33 Research notes that elevated funding rates suggest aggressive positioning on the long side, increasing the likelihood of squeezes in either direction.

Earlier in the year, a tariff-driven sell-off pushed BTC down nearly 32%, and March 2024 saw a similar 33.57% drop from all-time highs. A comparable move today would place Bitcoin in the $84K–$86K range, especially if leveraged positions unwind.

Data also shows that the average cost basis for BTC ETF holders sits at $89,651—a level briefly undercut on Tuesday when Bitcoin dipped to $89,183. During the Q1 downturn, BTC found support near this zone, making it a key area to watch again. MicroStrategy’s widely tracked cost basis of $74,433 also remains a long-term reference point.

Bitcoin recently slipped 2% to $94,253, falling below the 61.8% Fibonacci retracement (from the April 7 low at $74,508 to the October 6 ATH at $126,299). After touching $89,253 on Tuesday, it bounced back above $90K and closed around $92,960; Wednesday trading hovered near $91,300.

If Bitcoin maintains the psychological $90K level, a move back toward the 61.8% retracement at $94,253 is possible. A decisive close below $90K, however, would keep the door open to further downside, with $85,000 marked as the next significant support area on the daily chart.

If the 0.13 area continues to act as support, a push toward 0.16 wouldn’t be surprising.
I’d be cautious about jumping in unless the volume trend strengthens.
