JPMorgan put JPM Coin on Ethereum. On-chain, it's still empty. Facts: • Oct 19: Kinexys by J.P. Morgan brought JPM Coin (JPMD), its USD deposit token, to Ethereum mainnet, alongside Base. Approved institutional clients only. • Kinexys says it has processed $4T+ cumulative, ~$7B/day (internal data). • Oct 23: Sentora's contract review found zero JPMD supply and zero transfers on Ethereum, with one allowlisted address. Base supply ~ $1M across two addresses, unchanged since Nov 2025. My take: a launch is a permission layer, not adoption. JPMD is commercial bank money, not a stablecoin, and real usage may sit in internal or off-chain flows we can't see. The tell will be on-chain supply and transfers, plus any DeFi or collateral integration. $ETH: ~$2,381 (-1.0% 24h, ~$469M vol, Binance spot 16:22 KST). 7d range ~$2,329–$2,527. Bull case: supply starts showing up, more banks pick Ethereum L1 for settlement, tokenized cash meets tokenized funds on-chain. Bear case: the contract stays dormant, activity stays permissioned, and the headline does little for ETH demand short term. Risks: allowlisted design, slow institutional rollout, data only from one review. Lookalike tokens at other addresses aren't JPMorgan's. Do bank deposit tokens matter for ETH, or is it just branding? Starknet just voted to study leaving Ethereum. The market sold it anyway. STRK stakers and delegators backed researching an independent post-quantum Layer 1 with 93.52% of voting power (3,236 votes, Oct 15-22). StarkWare says it was the highest turnout in Starknet governance history. What it does and doesn't mean: - Non-binding. Starknet stays an Ethereum L2 for now. - StarkWare + Starknet Foundation formed a working group; white paper expected in the coming weeks. - Any actual move needs a separate binding vote. STRK stays the token, no new token planned. Why now: STARK proofs are hash-based and accounts can switch to post-quantum signatures without a hard fork. But the bridge and data availability inherit Ethereum's elliptic-curve crypto, so full quantum resistance is tied to Ethereum's ~2029 timeline. $STRK reaction: ~$0.0491, -7.6% 24h, ~$9.0M volume (Binance spot, 15:15 KST). 7-day range $0.0482-$0.0660; today printed the weekly low. Bull case: a credible white paper gives STRK its own security narrative and more control over its roadmap. Bear case: own validators and data availability cost a lot, liquidity could fragment, and a split from $ETH may scare off some builders. Risks: execution, governance delays, and a weak risk-off tape (BTC ~$81K, ETF outflows). Is post-quantum independence a real edge for L2s, or a distraction? Wall Street just got a 24/7 Solana wrapper. Backpack Securities today launched tokenized Apple ($AAPL) and Nvidia ($NVDA) on Solana. Each token is redeemable 1:1 for a real Nasdaq share via Backpack Exchange and can move across Solana apps like Jupiter, Phantom, Raydium and Kamino. It lands two weeks after Securitize brought 12 US stocks (incl. AAPL, NVDA) to Solana with USDC settlement. Solana is quietly becoming the default rail for onchain equities. Why it matters: • Redeemable shares beat price-tracking synthetics on trust • Stocks as Solana collateral could pull new TVL and fees • Weekend trading = price discovery while Nasdaq sleeps $SOL: 102.56, -1.8% 24h, ~$160M spot volume (Binance, 14:17 KST). 7-day range on 4h candles: 100.43 to 109.20. The LIBRA criminal case is closed. Not because the losses weren't real, but because a judge ruled they weren't a crime. On Oct 23, Argentine federal judge Marcelo Martínez de Giorgi dismissed the case against President Javier Milei, Karina Milei and 9 others, including LIBRA creator Hayden Davis, accepting prosecutor Eduardo Taiano's request. Key points from the ruling: • A pump-then-crash alone isn't fraud without a proven deceptive act that caused the losses • No abuse of authority: Milei's Feb 14, 2025 X post came with no official acts or state resources • Investors who said ~$100M was pulled out were excluded as plaintiffs; their appeals to the Federal Cassation Court are still pending Why it matters for crypto: Bull view: legal overhang removed, and courts are drawing a line between promoting a token and defrauding buyers. Bear view: "not a crime" is not "not a loss." Retail still ate the crash, and the precedent can make celebrity-shilled launches feel lower-risk than they are. The lesson hasn't changed: a famous name is not due diligence. Check liquidity, holder concentration and who controls supply before you buy any launch. BlackRock wants to sell a Bitcoin ETF with a seatbelt. 🛡️ iShares Trust filed a Form 485APOS with the SEC on Oct 19 for the "iShares Bitcoin Managed Protection ETF" (ticker PBIT). How it works, per the prospectus: • Upside exposure to IBIT (its spot BTC ETF), only up to a cap • Bought + sold call options in 3 overlapping tranches • Fixed-income holdings to help fund the options and cushion losses Fee, cap level and listing date are still blank. The filing asks to go effective 75 days after filing, which is a regulatory step, not a confirmed launch. My take: this targets advisers and conservative money that wants BTC exposure but can't stomach -30% drawdowns. Wall Street is packaging $BTC like an equity product: buffers, caps, structured income. Bull case: easier entry for cautious capital, more steady demand flowing into IBIT-linked hedging. Bear case: capped upside makes it a "rent BTC" product, not an "own BTC" one, and options flows can dampen volatility in both directions. BTC now: $80,982 (-0.96% 24h, Binance spot, 12:20 KST), stuck in a ~$79.8K–$84.9K range over 10 days. Would you trade upside for protection? Swell's liquid restaking tokens just showed why "contract rate" and "market price" aren't the same thing. What's confirmed so far: • A researcher (Spreek) reported Swell's operational hot keys, incl. the swETH/rswETH oracle bot, were controlled by an unknown actor from 14:25 UTC Oct 21 • NAV was pushed up to 1%/hour with no ETH behind it • 4 malicious upgrade contracts were deployed but NOT queued; reaching the ~2,513 ETH in contracts needs a 7-day timelock via a 4/7 multisig • Swell paused deposits and withdrawals on Oct 23 and says no ETH has left the contracts • Root cause is still unconfirmed The gap: per Unchained, the contracts showed swETH ~1.203 ETH and rswETH ~1.138 ETH vs the last clean rates of 1.133 and 1.082. On DEXs, swETH traded around 1.089 WETH in a thin pool. My take: the timelock and multisig did their job. The weak link was an always-online key with power to move the exchange rate. Any lending market that prices an LST off its own contract rate inherits that risk. Bull case: rates get reset, withdrawals reopen, no funds lost, and Swell publishes a clear post-mortem. Bear case: a longer freeze, a messy NAV reset, or the cause turns out to be wider than one protocol. $ETH ~$2,382 (-0.5% 24h, Binance spot, 11:15 KST), so the wider market hasn't reacted. Your stock dividends could soon be buying Bitcoin automatically. Franklin Templeton filed a Form 8-A on Oct 22 to list two "Bitcoin DRIP" ETFs on Nasdaq, with an Oct 27 effective date: • FBEQ: 500 largest US stocks, 0.09% fee • FIBT: 100 largest non-financial Nasdaq names, 0.19% fee How it works (per the filings and reporting): • Starts at 95% stocks / 5% $BTC • Every dividend gets reinvested into BTC exposure the next market open • Quarterly rebalance trims BTC back to 4.5% if it runs above 5% • BTC exposure comes via ETPs/futures, not coins held on-chain My take: the 5% sleeve is small, but the design matters. It turns dividend income into a recurring BTC bid inside a plain equity wrapper, with no exchange account or wallet needed. Bull case: steady, price-insensitive buying that grows if assets grow. Bear case: a new fund with no disclosed seed size, and the rebalancing caps mean it can also sell BTC. Three ASEAN central banks are now building stablecoin rails together. 🌏 On Oct 23, MAS confirmed Bank Negara Malaysia and the Bank of Thailand have joined BLOOM, Singapore's cross-border digital money initiative, as policymaker members. What it covers: • How tokenised deposits and regulated stablecoins get accepted, exchanged and settled across borders • Interoperability between different digital money networks • Built-in controls: ID checks, sanctions screening, transaction rules New industry members include Visa, Mastercard, Ripple, Maybank, Airwallex and the World Bank Group, joining Circle, Coinbase, J.P. Morgan, Stripe, DBS and others. My take: this isn't a token launch, it's plumbing. The OCC just dropped a quiet but big stablecoin decision. Its final GENIUS Act rule for payment stablecoin issuers was published in the Federal Register on Oct 23 and takes effect Jan 18, 2027. The key change: the proposal had a "rebuttable presumption" that certain deals with affiliates and related third parties broke the ban on issuers paying yield. The final rule drops it. The OCC says it will use enforcement discretion based on facts and circumstances instead. Why it matters: • Issuers still can't pay yield themselves • Third-party reward setups get judged case by case, not presumed illegal • Banks' lobby (ABA) is pushing back, worried about deposit flight Bull case: more room for stablecoin rewards programs and growth for $USDC and $USDT style rails in the US. Solana just swapped its consensus engine mid-flight, and $SOL barely blinked. Alpenglow went live on mainnet Oct 21 (epoch 1064, slot 459,653,000), retiring TowerBFT after 6+ years. Finality target: ~150ms, down from ~12.8s. What actually changed: • Validator votes moved off-chain into certificates, so vote transactions are gone. Expect "TPS" dashboards to drop; that's accounting, not lost user activity • Exchanges and merchants can treat payments as final almost instantly • Rotor (the block-propagation half) is still unscheduled Market check (Binance SOL/USDT, Oct 24 01:21 KST): $104.44, +0.08% 24h, ~$154M quote volume. That's ~2% below the Oct 21 daily close of $106.97, so no "upgrade pump" so far. Levels from the last 14 daily candles: support near $100.4-101.3 (recent lows), resistance near $108-109 (Oct 21-22 highs), then ~$113. Bull case: faster finality draws payments, trading and tokenized-asset volume, and a reclaim of $108-109 confirms buyers care. Bear case: macro (ETF outflows, Fed next week) outweighs tech news, and a daily close under $100 opens lower ranges. Risk: a brand-new consensus layer is still being battle-tested at scale. South Korea wants stablecoins inside its FX rulebook. 🇰🇷 The Bank of Korea says it plans to prepare a bill with the government this year amending the Foreign Exchange Transactions Act to regulate stablecoins as a means of payment, per The Block citing local outlet Digital Asset. Don't mix this up with the FX law amendment that already passed: that one takes effect Dec 3, 2026 and makes crypto providers moving assets across Korea's border register with the Ministry of Finance and Economy. It doesn't authorise stablecoin payments. My take: 🟢 Bull case: a clear legal path for $USDT / $USDC payments could pull Korean flows from grey areas into regulated rails, and the Digital Asset Basic Act is said to be close. 🔴 Bear case: "regulate" can also mean reporting duties, capital controls and tighter watch on private wallets.
