This Guy has only two attempts left to unlock $700 Million in $BTC 💔
Back in 2011, Stefan Thomas earned 7,002 BTC for creating an explainer video. Those coins are now worth over $600 million but they’re locked inside an encrypted IronKey USB drive. The catch? IronKey allows only 10 password attempts before it permanently wipes itself. Thomas has already failed 8 times, leaving just two chances before the Bitcoin is lost forever.
A cybersecurity firm, Unciphered, has claimed it could crack the IronKey’s encryption, but Thomas declined the offer due to privacy and risk concerns. The case has since become one of crypto’s most infamous cautionary tales. Some speculate that future breakthroughs, like quantum computing, might eventually enable recovery—but for now, the Bitcoin remains completely inaccessible.
It’s a stark reminder of crypto’s core rule: lose your private keys, lose your money—forever.
