Imagine this situation. You're a Bitcoin maximalist who has witnessed bridges and wrapped token systems stealing billions of dollars. You have witnessed overnight treasury depletion due to smart contract hacking. You've seen dependable custodians steal user money. It seems crazy to move your Bitcoin somewhere. Then someone demonstrates a technique that renders your Bitcoin unhackable, even when you use it in several chains. This is the tale of how blockchain security is being revolutionized by Proof of Proof consensus.

Maxwell Sanchez, an engineer who is fixated on an apparently intractable problem, is where the trip begins. How can the renowned security of Bitcoin be transferred to other blockchains without the need for complicated validator sets or merged mining? Every solution that was in place needed confidence someplace. Federated validators could work together. Participation from miners was necessary for merged mining. The whole Bitcoin network is now protecting your transaction. To take your money, an attacker would have to reorganize Bitcoin by going back at least nine blocks. It would be quite expensive.

Multisig is not available for social engineering. No oracle network is available for manipulation. No bridge contract exists to take advantage of. Just unadulterated cryptographic evidence rooted on the safest blockchain ever developed. Even when your Bitcoin is utilized in intricate DeFi techniques, it becomes unhackable.

The ramifications go much beyond the security of a single transaction. Hemi's smart contracts can decide based on the ultimate state of Bitcoin. Prior to loan issuance, a lending process can confirm the existence of collateral. Before releasing cash, a DEX can confirm that deals were completed. Before proposals are implemented, a DAO can verify that votes were cast. Without the restrictions of Bitcoin, every action acquires finality on a Bitcoin level.

The security model has been proven by real-world testing. More than $1.2 billion has passed across the protocol since Hemi's mainnet debut. No money has been lost due to security lapses. There has not been a single transaction reversed. There hasn't been a successful block attack. This is neither a coincidence or a case of luck. Bitcoin's proof of work provides mathematical assurance.

Attacks are economically unreasonable due to the cost dynamics. After superfinality, an attacker would have to pay millions of dollars in Bitcoin mining expenses to undo a Hemi transaction. The cost of reversing a transaction increases with its depth. Transactions are essentially irreversible after just one hour. After a day, hundreds of millions of dollars in mining security are in place to secure them. The cost surpasses the GDP of tiny countries after a week.

Examine this in comparison to conventional blockchain security methods. Small validator sets, which are used by the majority of Layer 2s, may hypothetically conspire. Multisig signers, which are essential to bridge protocols, may be hacked. The separate consensus used by sidechains is significantly less reliable than that of Bitcoin.
