At the Consensus 2025 event in Toronto, Charles Hoskinson once again mentioned Glacier Drop - the upcoming large airdrop of the Midnight blockchain:

Coinbase extorted $20M due to internal data leak

Coinbase confirms that a group of hackers bribed an international support staff member of the exchange, stealing personal customer data including names, addresses, identification photos… and then demanded $20M to keep it quiet.

Instead of meeting the extortion demand, Coinbase announced a reward of $20M for anyone who provides information that helps bring the perpetrators to justice. The exchange also reassured that the incident only affects less than 1% of monthly trading users, with no passwords, private keys, or customer funds compromised, and Prime accounts remain safe.

In a filing to regulators, Coinbase estimated that the cost of resolving the incident could reach $180M–$400M. The exchange is committed to compensating 100% of damages and will enhance security to prevent similar incidents.

Sharing thoughts on trust and promises in Crypto

After more than 2 seasons struggling with the market, I was once fascinated by the AMAs and podcasts of developers. They spoke well, provided sharp analyses, and promised that their products would 'revolutionize' the industry... And then, I had to swallow quite a few bitter fruits just because I trusted those promises too much.

Here are some memorable examples:

- Backwoods: Promised TGE in Q4/2024, then said 'a few weeks later' in Q1/2025, but now it seems they have... disappeared.
- The Beacon: Once promised to release the full game and TGE in Q4/2025, at the latest Q1/2025. Now there's no sign of it.
- Tribester (Ronin): Similar case. Promised a lot, but the results... you know what I mean.
- Phaver: An application belonging to the Lens ecosystem, the developer went on an AMA promising about 'the social app revolution' and then after TGE, the token was split up, and they have now publicly ceased operations.
- Movement: Former CEO Rushi appeared on Decypher's podcast sharing exciting insights about Ripple, Cardano, and how to build sustainable projects. Who would have thought he would later be accused of manipulation and get fired.
- Linea, Eclipse, Lens, Gomble,...: Promised airdrops, grand TGE, but then continuously delayed...

What awaits Ethereum after the Pectra upgrade?

According to Google Trends, the search volume for the keyword "Etherium" - a common misspelling of Ethereum - has been rising sharply recently. Besides benefiting from the market's recovery as trade tensions ease, this trend also reflects the community's increasing interest in the upcoming major changes related to ETH:

1️⃣ Fusaka Upgrade

- At the infrastructure level, after the Pectra upgrade, Ethereum developers immediately began working on the next major update named “Fusaka,” expected to be deployed at the end of this year.

- A highlight of Fusaka is the EIP proposal “PeerDAS,” which allows validators to only download a part of the transaction data (blob) instead of the entire thing. This is expected to reduce costs for Layer 2 transactions and help organizations operating validator nodes save more resources.

2️⃣ Staking Integration into ETH ETF

- Another noteworthy point is that the giant BlackRock recently had a private meeting with the SEC's Crypto Task Force to propose including staking in the ETH ETF.

- If approved, investors could benefit from price increases while also receiving periodic staking rewards - a “2 in 1” mechanism that traditional assets rarely offer in the current interest rate environment.

Although both prospects are very promising, especially since BlackRock has an almost absolute ETF approval rate (99.83%), there are still many obstacles in reality.
