Almost a year ago, I bought a Bitcoin miner for $25. Here are the results and my opinion on whether a device like this is worth it.
This machine connects to a pool where millions of similar devices try to solve a block. Basically, it works like a lottery, but with an extremely low probability.
This miner consumes approximately $2-3 in electricity per year and costs around $25. If your device manages to solve a block (which, as I mentioned before, is very unlikely), you would receive a reward of 3.125 BTC.
I’ve had the machine running for almost a year, but it hasn’t solved any block. It was clear that for $25, it wouldn’t generate consistent profits, but having a machine like this is like participating in a lottery every second.
