The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has opened a three-week comment period for three Ether spot exchange-traded fund (ETF) proposals, according to CoinDesk. ETF ventures affiliated with Grayscale Investments, Fidelity and Bitwise are now available for public comment, according to notices published by the SEC. The agency welcomes comments on the proposed rule change from interested individuals.
Although the SEC's approval of bitcoin spot ETFs in January raised hopes, industry experts were less hopeful that the regulator would approve similar products tracking Ethereum (ETH). The SEC was previously forced to withdraw its opposition to Bitcoin practices following a significant court loss against Grayscale. However, SEC officials later argued that their approval of Bitcoin ETFs did not extend to other tokens.
