BNB whale scammed out of 13.5 million USD in phishing attack

A major investor on #BinanceSmartChain lost 13.5 million USD in tokens after falling victim to a phishing scam. Initially, there were rumors that the lending platform Venus Protocol had been hacked, but security firms Cyvers and PeckShield confirmed that this was merely a scam targeting users' personal wallets.

The scam mechanism and perpetrators

The attack occurred when the victim browsed a malicious transaction, granting permission to transfer tokens to the attacker's address. Security experts indicated that traces of this incident are linked to North Korean hackers. Group #Lazarus , one of the most infamous hacker groups in the world, which previously caused a hack of 1.4 billion USD at Bybit, also hails from this region.

Response measures and warnings

After the attack, the security mechanism of Venus Protocol was activated, temporarily suspending the protocol to prevent the attacker from moving tokens. Venus and its security partners are working with the victim to try to recover the funds. However, the chances of success remain uncertain. Experts warn that phishing scams often exploit users' trust, especially during airdrop events or token launches. Users should be extremely cautious and carefully check the website address before engaging in any transactions. #Hacker
