When I first entered the crypto space, I was almost completely in the dark. I didn't understand what others meant by 'contract long and short', 'L2 airdrops', 'on-chain interaction', and as a result, I lost 30% of my capital in the first week - it was painful, but it pushed me to start learning. Combining my experiences over the past few years, I've summarized a roadmap of essential knowledge for beginners, and I'm sharing it with you who just entered the space.

One, First figure out 'What exactly is the crypto space'

Many people go directly to exchanges to buy coins without even understanding the difference between 'blockchain' and 'tokens'.
At that time, I first figured out three basic concepts:

  • Blockchain: Like a public ledger shared across the internet

  • Bitcoin / Ethereum: The main currencies or platforms on the ledger

  • Exchange: A place to buy and sell digital assets

Newbies are advised to read a few introductory articles or watch YouTube videos to clarify concepts before depositing.

Two, Learn to store coins safely

The first lesson in the crypto space is not to make money, but to learn not to lose.
I've seen too many people lose all their assets due to private key leaks or phishing websites.

What to learn:

  1. How to use hot wallets (MetaMask, OKX wallet)

  2. The significance of cold wallets (Ledger, Trezor)

  3. Never share your recovery phrase or private key with others

Three, Understand the trading interface

Exchanges (Binance, OKX, Bybit, etc.) may seem to have many buttons, but only a few are commonly used:

  • Spot trading (buy and wait for an increase)

  • Contract trading (leveraged tools, but beginners should avoid it for now)

  • Deposit/Withdrawal (make sure to select the correct chain and address)

I opened a simulated trading account, without using real money, to familiarize myself with the trading process.

The crypto space changes too quickly; trends are the core of making money.
2020 was DeFi, 2021 was GameFi and NFTs, 2023 is AI+Crypto, L2.
Newbies can start learning to use:

  • CoinMarketCap / CoinGecko: View cryptocurrency rankings

  • DeFiLlamaTrack capital inflow in the sector

  • Twitter, TG group: Get to know new projects in real time

Five, Learn a bit about on-chain operations

On-chain interaction is the core skill for airdrops.
Even if you don't want to speculate, it's recommended to learn:

  • Connect wallet to DApp

  • Exchange coins on decentralized exchanges (like Uniswap)

  • Authorize, revoke contract permissions

These operations can be practiced with small amounts, as many future major projects reward early on-chain users through airdrops.

Six, Mindset management

Don't laugh, this is really important.
In the crypto space, some people become rich overnight, while others lose everything in an instant.
My experience is:

  • Set stop-loss and take-profit points

  • Don't go all in, always keep liquid funds

  • Greed in a bull market, learning in a bear market
