Mumbai Rains Submerge Celebrity Homes, City Reels Under Flood Fury
Mumbai, August 21, 2025 – Relentless rains have brought India’s financial capital to a standstill, with widespread flooding affecting both ordinary citizens and Bollywood’s biggest stars.
Viral videos circulating online show Amitabh Bachchan’s iconic Juhu bungalow Prateeksha partially submerged, with water entering the premises and reaching ankle-to-calf height. The megastar was even spotted outside with a wiper in hand, attempting to clear water from the entrance.
The downpour spared no one, as the homes of Kajol and Ajay Devgn (“Shivshakti”), Rani Mukerji and Aditya Chopra, and even the Deol family were also hit by floodwaters. Vlogger footage revealed waterlogged streets outside their residences, underscoring the severity of Mumbai’s inundation.
While the celebrity videos have gone viral, many netizens have urged media to shift focus towards poorer communities who face devastating losses in the floods. “If stars with palatial bungalows can suffer, imagine what the common people are going through,” one user wrote.
City in Crisis
Transport paralysed – Local trains, flights, and road networks have been severely disrupted.
Casualties reported – At least six deaths in Maharashtra in the last 24 hours, with several missing in Nanded district.
Schools and offices shut – Authorities advised residents to stay indoors as water levels continue to rise.
Climate Change Concerns
Experts warn that Mumbai’s monsoon patterns are intensifying due to climate change. The city has already received nearly double its average August rainfall by the 20th, with more than 200 mm falling in a single day in some areas.
Symbolic Reminder
The flooding of celebrity homes serves as a stark reminder that wealth offers no immunity against natural disasters. As one viral clip’s narrator put it: “No matter how rich you are, no one is spared when Mumbai floods.”
