#Bitlayer
Bitlayer is the first Layer-2 for Bitcoin that adds smart contracts and scalability while maintaining top-level security of Bitcoin.
How does it work?
It utilizes BitVM (Bitcoin Virtual Machine), allowing complex programs to be executed on Bitcoin.
Architecture: L2 operates through PoS validators and then periodically confirms its authenticity on Bitcoin through rollup (performs state anchoring).
Supports EVM — meaning Ethereum developers can easily port their dApps to Bitlayer.
What's cool?
Security like on Bitcoin — everything is verified through cryptographic proofs (fraud proofs).
Scalability and speed — you can execute more transactions (through aggregation, parallel execution, etc.).
Interoperability — works with Ethereum and other blockchains, and has a Trust-minimized bridge for BTC ↔ EVM ecosystems.
Development stages
1. Mainnet-V1 (PoS) — launched in April 2024, operates with PoS multi-signature and compatibility with EVM dApps.
2. Development of Rollup-V2 — includes BitVM Bridge and a full rollup that minimizes trust and embeds security directly into Bitcoin.
Why is this needed?
For developers — easy to launch DeFi, NFTs, games on Bitcoin without writing a node.
For enthusiasts — safe, fast, scalable.
Overall — Bitlayer is like “Bitcoin, but with a full Web3 experience.”
