In the world of crypto, we've seen many astonishing tales, people becoming millionaires overnight, coins being hacked, and scams spreading. But this one? This is on a completely new level.
Looking Back: December 2020
Let's go back to December 2020. LuBian, a major Bitcoin mining company that handled a significant portion of Bitcoin's global mining power, was hacked. In just a few hours, hackers stole 127,426 BTC, which was worth about $3.5 billion at the time.
But the most surprising thing is that no one realized at that time. This story remained hidden until a blockchain tracking company named Arkham Intelligence finally uncovered this incident in August 2025. Now, the stolen Bitcoin is worth over $15 billion, and it remains in one wallet... completely inactive.
How Did This Happen?
LuBian made a major security mistake. Their private key generation system (which protects your crypto) was weak. Hackers guessed those keys and quietly emptied the wallet.
LuBian tried to fight back. They moved some of the remaining Bitcoin around and sent over 1,500 small messages on the blockchain pleading with the hacker to return the coins. But the hacker never responded.
And then... Nothing happened
Since then, nothing has happened. The hacker hasn't moved the stolen Bitcoin. It has been sitting there, completely inactive for almost 5 years. Even today, when the value of this wallet has reached around $15 billion, it resembles a ghost wallet. No activity. No signs of life.
Why Wasn't It Used?
People have all kinds of theories:
👉 Very dangerous: Moving such a large amount of Bitcoin can be easily tracked.
👉 Access was given: The hacker might have forgotten the password or lost the key.
👉 Waiting for the right time: The hacker might be planning to move it when no one is watching.
The real reason is known to no one. But this mystery has made it the largest crypto heist in history.
What Can We Learn?
This incident highlights how crucial strong security is in crypto. Even big companies can make mistakes that can cost billions. And once crypto is stolen, recovering it is nearly impossible.
It also reminds us that blockchain never forgets. Every coin can be tracked. But sometimes, despite the clarity, the thief gets away.
So what do you think?
Will this Bitcoin ever move again?
Or has this become the largest ghost wallet in the crypto world?
