Russia that had been inactive for at least 400 years erupted this Sunday after centuries, following the powerful 8.8 earthquake that shook the country days ago.

According to scientists, the magma cone ejected a cloud of ash several kilometers high. Its awakening occurred in the remote and almost uninhabited region of Kamchatka, following the seismic movements of last week.

Named Krasheninnikov, the volcano erupted for the first time in "at least 400 years," reported the Kronotsky Nature Reserve in a statement, the site of the geological structure. Afterward, it sent volcanic ash up to four miles into the sky.

This prompted the evacuation of reserve workers. However, they reassured people by stating that it is too far from cities to pose a danger to humans.

Vsevolod Yaklovev, the interim director of the park, indicated that the eruption of the volcano was an "exciting and fascinating event." He also mentioned that Krasheninnikov was among the eight active volcanoes in the reserve.

Volcanic activity began at 6:00 am local time on this August 3rd. According to The New York Times, reserve personnel, while conducting a research trip to the cone, observed gas and steam emerging from the crater, prompting a quick evacuation.
