Criminalization of dealing with virtual currencies in Algeria
For anyone dealing in digital currencies (such as BNB, Bitcoin, or USDT):
Law No. 25-10 dated July 24, 2025, amending and supplementing Law 05-01 concerning the prevention of money laundering and the financing of terrorism and combating it, explicitly and clearly criminalizes any use, trade, or mining of virtual or digital currencies within the national territory.
The main article in this law severely punishes anyone who:
Used or dealt in any form with virtual currencies (such as Bitcoin or Tether USDT).
Engaged in mining or production or distribution of these currencies.
Dealt with exchange platforms or digital wallets associated with them.
Penalties: They may reach heavy financial fines and/or imprisonment, depending on the nature of the crime and its severity.
