✅ Version Highlights
Spark 4.0.0 (Major release)
This is the first fully stable release of the $SPK Connect client‑server architecture, enabling enhanced performance, stability, and language‑agnostic remote execution — a key architectural update from previous Spark readers .
Upgraded runtime support includes:
Java 21
Scala codebase prepped for Scala 2.13 (and later) support
Dropped some older integrations (e.g. Mesos, Python 3.8 support, SparkR deprecation) .
Spark 3.5.6 (Latest maintenance release in 3.x line)
Released on May 29, 2025, this is the newest bugfix/stability update for the 3.5 branch.
Spark 3.5.x continues to support Scala 2.13 by default (also works with Scala 2.12) and includes important security and correctness fixes since Spark 3.5.2 in August 2024 .
🧐 Which Should You Use?
If you want the latest stable architecture improvements, including mature Spark Connect and platform readiness for Scala 2.13+, go with Spark 4.0.0.
If you prefer maximum compatibility with existing 3.x systems, pre‑upgrade safety, or tools that haven’t yet adapted, Spark 3.5.6 remains the best-supported branch.
