😲😲✅Investigation: The US Government Owns Only 28,988 BTC — Significantly Less Than Previously Thought
According to updated official data, the US government holds significantly fewer bitcoins than previously assumed by analysts. The current figure is 28,988 BTC, which is equivalent to approximately $3.4 billion at the current exchange rate. This is a substantial difference from the widely held estimates of about 200,000 BTC, which were valued at over $24 billion.
This information was disclosed by independent journalist under the pseudonym L0la L33tz on X. She obtained this data in response to a request sent to the US Marshals Service on March 24, 2025. The recently received response stated:
"The total amount of bitcoins owned by the US government is 28,988.35643016 BTC, or about $3.44 billion at the current exchange rate." This data has raised a wave of questions, as the analytical platform Arkham Intelligence had previously reported that the US government controls over 200,000 BTC, including assets seized in various cryptocurrency cases, such as Silk Road, Bitfinex, and Helix.
As L0la L33tz explained, the US Marshals Service regularly liquidates seized assets through public auctions.
