President Trump announced Wednesday that Coca-Cola had agreed to begin using "real cane sugar" in Coke made in
the United States.
The company, however, neither confirmed nor denied the claim, saying only that more details on "innovative offerings" would be shared soon.
Coca-Cola has used a blend of corn syrup and sugar since 1980 to offset rising sugar costs. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has criticized corn syrup as a contributor to obesity, though it remains unclear if Coca-Cola plans to eliminate it entirely.
The company already sells cane sugar-sweetened Mexican Coke and Kosher-for-Passover Coke, both of which have dedicated followings in the U.S.
Trump's statement sparked speculation about a broader return to traditional sweeteners for the iconic soda, but no official confirmation or timeline has been provided by the company or the White House.
