Japan breaks record with an internet speed so fast it could download all of Netflix in 1 second

A team of engineers in Japan has just achieved an internet speed that seems straight out of science fiction: 1.02 petabits per second. To put it into context, that is more than a million gigabits per second. Yes, you could download the ENTIRE Netflix catalog in a single second.

The most impressive part is that they achieved this feat using fiber cables very similar to those already present in many current infrastructures.

With this speed, Japan has left any comparison behind: it is 3.5 million times faster than the average internet in the United States, 17 million times faster than in Colombia, and even 34 million times faster than the rest of Latin American countries.
