In a big move towards digital transformation, Abu Dhabi’s Department of Municipalities and Transport and Tawasul Transport will now accept AE Coin (AEC) — the UAE’s first licensed AED stablecoin — for taxi fare payments.

Passengers can now pay for taxi rides using AE Coin via the AEC Wallet
This marks the first government-backed stablecoin use in public transport
Initiative launched in partnership with Al Maryah Community Bank (MBank)
🚀 A live payment was already made using AE Coin to demonstrate the new system in action.
